Rawleigh's Ningxia Wolfberry is sourced from the Ningxia Province in Northern China. It's scientific name is lycium barbarum. This fruit has been used in traditional Chinese health benefits for thousands of years with translated documents dating back 2,000 years citing the use of wolfberries in treatments ranging from replenishing vital essences ("the functions of the body") to strengthening and restoring major organs.
Wolfberries naturally contain all the nutrients that are documented by experts as essential for a healthy living:
- 18 amino acids (6 x higher than bee pollen)
- 21 trace minerals
- 6 essential fatty acids
- Vitamins B1, B2, B6
- Vitamin E
- Beta carotene
- Vitamin C
- Antioxidants
Although the benefits of wolfberry have been evident to the Chinese for a number of centuries, Eastern scientists have only recently studied wolfberry fruits for their nutrient and health benefits.
Studies have shown that the use of wolfberry may provide many health benefits including:
- Increase in spirit and optimism
- General health and wellbeing
Warnings: Warfarin was found to interact with a number of herbal medicines including lycium resulting in over anti-coagulation. The combination of warfarin and lycium barbarum should be avoided hence patients on blood thining drugs (eg warfarin, herparin, aspirin) should seek medical advice prior to consuming any products with wolfberry. Wolfberry also contains high levels of naturally occurring sugars. Diabetics should consult their healthcare practitioner prior to taking wolfberry products.
